Menno van Voorst

Software engineer & product builder, based in Kortenhoef, near Hilversum.

I build software products, from the first sketch to something people actually use.

I wrote my first code when I was twelve and never really stopped. Later I studied Communication & Multimedia Design in Utrecht, which taught me the other half of the job: figuring out what to build, for whom, and what to leave out.

That turns out to be the useful half now that AI writes most of the code. It writes most of mine, too: Kieskeurig.nl and PeerPep are largely built by AI these days, with me steering. I also use it to dig through data when a call needs numbers.

The calls themselves stay with me: how it fits together, what matters most, and when it's good enough to ship. And AI can't sit next to a user, notice where they get stuck, and stick with it until it works. That's the part I enjoy most.

So I'm a software engineer who thinks like a product designer. Or the other way around, depending on the day.

How I work

listen → sketch → build → ship → watch → repeat

AI is part of every step. It helps me make sense of research and data, turns sketches into working code, and does the refactoring nobody wants to do. I review and decide. It never needs coffee. I still do.

My home turf is JavaScript and TypeScript: React, Next.js, Astro, Node. But with AI at the keyboard, taste matters more than any one stack, so I'm happy to go wherever the problem is.

I work best close to the people I'm building for. I figure things out on my own, say so when something's off, and usually bring a joke to standup. I care about the details nobody puts in a ticket: the empty state, the error message, the second visit.

Say hi

If you're working on something and need someone to take it from idea to production, I'd like to hear about it. Mail me at menno@vanvoor.st, or find me on LinkedIn and GitHub.
